Title

A Call To Holiness

Scripture
Speak to the congregation… and say to them, “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
(Leviticus 19:2)
Devotional
Holiness is not religion; nor is religion always holy. The holiness God calls us to is an obedient holiness. To be holy is to be separated unto God; that is we belong to Him. Holy living is obedient living. There are only two areas of life that can hinder the holiness of the believer: idolatry and adultery. Idolatry is the placing of anything before God. Having the wrong priorities for example can be idolatry. Adultery on the other hand, is the lustful desire for that which does not belong to you. Adultery goes beyond fornication. Jesus said, “…Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Therefore, holiness is more a state of mind that it is a condition of action. If it is not in the mind, it will not manifest in the body. A holy life is a surrendered life. It is a life that yields completely to Christ. If it fails in that yielding, it does not lose hope. Holiness is slow to sin and quick to repent.
