Title

It Might Take a Two-by-Four

Scripture
Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
(Matthew 13:13)
Devotional
The Lord did not use parables to cause confusion. Parables were not meant to be hidden mysteries intended for a select few. He used them as illustrations, stories if you will, so that all the people would be able to understand the message of the gospel. The gospel of Christ is communicated in every realm. “The heavens declare the glory of God.” “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen.” God will do just about anything to get your attention. He is not only able, but willing to use a spiritual two-by-four if need be. Wouldn’t it be much easier just to see, hear, and understand? All we need to do is open our eyes to see His handiwork. All we have to do is listen with an ear toward obedience so that we can understand what the will of the Lord is.
