Devotional
Up until the time of Solomon’s temple, God’s chosen people worshipped Him in a portable tent called a tabernacle. As king Solomon here dedicated the temple of the Lord, he referred to it as God’s resting place. Signifying that no longer would the place of worship have to be a wandering tabernacle. God now had a permanent dwelling place among His people. However, the tabernacle and the temple were but shadows of the temple built by Christ through the final sacrifice of the cross of Calvary. Now we, His people, are the temple of God. We are now not only His temples, we are also travailing tabernacles. He has taken permanent residence in us, His children, and we in turn have Him with us always, even until the end of the age. Therefore, because we are now clothed with salvation, we are to rejoice in His goodness as He rises to His rest.
