Title

The Source of Victory

Scripture
The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord.
(Proverbs 21:31)
Devotional
It is our job to prepare to the best of our ability in each and every realm of our lives. As the old adage says, "We are to work as if everything depends on us and pray as if everything depends on God." To do any less is to have faith without works—which the apostle James tells us is dead being alone.[1] Whether we give our best or not, God has always and will always give His best. Nevertheless, God blesses our best efforts. They prove our sincerity and belief in what we are doing. This does not justify our endeavors, but does show them to be what we believe to be true and right. It is for this reason that there will be times when the less prepared receive the victory over the better prepared. Victory always belongs to the Lord. When we rightly combine our best with God’s best the victory is inevitable.
