Devotional
Prayer is a dialog with God, not a monologue. Prayer is not a wish, but a process of praise, worship, thanksgiving, making request, and receiving direction. There should be speaking and listening. We are to set a time aside to pray; and do so faithfully. Fasting on the other hand is done not to get God’s attention, but that the one fasting may be able to focus on the things of God, and the need at hand. Fasting isn’t done to impress God, but to impress upon ourselves the need to have communion with Him. There should also be singleness of purpose in fasting. There is nothing wrong with fasting for physical reasons, However, don’t fast to lose weight and call it a fast unto the Lord. When you are faced with a situation that can only be handled by God, take it to Him with prayer and fasting.
