There is gold and a multitude of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.(Proverbs 20:15)
Devotional
Don’t you just love the Proverbs? Each is filled with manifold wisdom and knowledge. The message here is at least two-fold. First of all, the world contains all the wealth we need. This earth is filled with potential. God has supplied all the riches needed for His creation. Like a field ready to be harvested, success is there for the picking. Furthermore, our text tells us that we, God’s people, contain greater value than the riches of the world. When we acquire the knowledge of God and the ways of God, we have greater riches than the gold and rubies of the earth. We do not contain semiprecious jewels, but precious ones.As all the riches of the world are in the earth, all the riches we need can be found in us. Listen carefully to Colossians 1:27, “God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery . . . which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”(1)
