Title

First Temporal, Last Eternal

Scripture
So the last will be first, and the first last, For many are called, but few are chosen.
(Matthew 20:16)
Devotional
Jesus also said, that there are those who always seek the best places, the best seats, the first greetings, and to be called by grand titles. These are those who are the ones seeking their preeminence in this life. They only wish to be served; serving is beneath them. Even thought they appear to be the esteemed of life, they are the takers of life. Man usually envies them; God pities them. They seek their first place in life in exchange for the last seat in eternity. They are people of wrong priorities. Self is first, others last. They will exchange riches over character, fame for favor, recognition for righteousness, and the temporal for the eternal. Even though we’re all called to be servants of God, few are chosen because of their desire to be first. God has called you. What would hinder you from be chosen?

Wow, that is a great one. So true. It's a great reminder to myself to stay on the path when the pressures of the world continually try to pull me off.

I see this continously in my life. The constant striving for the appearance of attainment, privlledge, and status. Continual waves of envy are not uncommon as those who are deemed privledge announce and flaunt theur self importance to the equally disenfranchised others who covet that status and attainment. We are all destined to be judged by our actions, deeds, and devotions~ these ladder climbers never realize that the ladder leads to nowhere except a higher elevation to fall from.
