Title

When Small Is Better

Scripture
For who has despised the day of small things?
(Zechariah 4:10)
Devotional
The answer to Zechariah’s rhetorical question is, nobody of significance. All good things begin small. Great ventures begin with a first step. Great dreams initiate with a single thought. The salvation of man began with a baby in a manger. The problem with most of us is that we want to start big. Young married couples want to have the standard of living their parents have when they first marry. Amateur athletes want to be professionals without training. The novice businessman wants his business to succeed immediately. No price growth equates to valueless dreams. Do not despise your small beginning. Rejoice in it. It is the small areas of life that teaches faithfulness, patience and knowledge. The smaller your beginnings, the better you chances. The game is hardest won after it has begun. Maybe you have started too big. If so, back up and do not despise the day of small things.
Text For The Day
Zechariah 4:10: “For who has despised the day of small things?”
Thought For The Day
“Frank Capra, who directed It’s a Wonderful Life, was asked years ago about the central message of his classic film. After thinking a few moments, Capra responded, ‘I believe the real message of It’s a Wonderful Life is this: that under the sun, nothing is insignificant to God.’” Leadership Magazine.

Questions To Ponder

Morning Study Guide
Defining:  “Small”: Little, tiny, but by no means insignificant. The small is filled with latent power and great potential: the mustard and oak seed, the infant and child, two or three gathered in His Name.

Referencing: “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God,” Mark 10:14.

Applying: Whether a business or a church, an organization or a team, do not despise the day of small beginnings; and do not measure significance by size. Consider the vastness of the universe, and even the earth is small.
