Title

Be the Influencer

Scripture
To show partiality is not good, because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.
(Proverbs 28:21)
Devotional
Favoritism for the sake of gain is a dangerous game. James says, “If you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to the poor man ‘you stand there’, have you not shown partiality and become judges with evil thoughts?” The message is simple. It is not that we should show less attention to those we deem influential, it is that we should not judge whom it is that God may be using. Proverbs says, “One man pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.” Even if you are correct in your judgment with regard to the influence of certain people, our text says that they will sale-you-out for what the poor man already has, a piece of bread. Instead of looking for the influencer for personal gain, you be the influencer for the gain of others.

On November 13th, David said:
I think I've been guilty on both sides. Meaning I've expected favoritism in certain situations, and I've given favoritism in others. Often times neither situation was intentional. I hope i can be more aware of these circumstances going forward. This devotional offers some deep insight into an overlooked sinful behavior of man.
