Scripture
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.(Philippians 2:3)
Devotional
Overcoming selfishness and conceit have to be done purposefully. We have to die to self on purpose. That is, we have to listen when we don’t want to listen, give when we selfishly don’t want to give, and serve when we would much rather be served - even if initially it has to be done with a poor attitude. Eventually, we will get it right. Eventually, we will be obedient. Ideally, this would be our heart’s desire, and the closer we become like Christ the more apt it will be so.Therefore, purposefully share and humble yourself. Purposefully do your best to be a team player, not caring who gets the credit as long as we win together. Give accolades expecting none in return. Reward others even when you deserve the reward. Remember: God knows and He Himself will likewise reward you. There is no more secure or rewarding position than this.
