The Spirit of Pharaoh

Scripture
And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice? I do not know the Lord.
(Exodus 5:2)
Devotional
This is the commentary of a world without Christ. When you have a world filled with every sort of god imaginable, why would they listen to yours? We do not live in a godless society, but in a society that makes gods out of everything but the true and living God. The world will worship everything from athletes to movie stars, and, like Pharaoh, the world will worship itself.

The most deceptive of all false gods is the god of self. How arrogant to proclaim, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice?” It is one thing for those who do not know the Lord to make such a proclamation, it is quite another for those who know Him to make it. Yet, that is what many Christians do. They live a lifestyle that announces “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice?” Therefore, watch out for the spirit of Pharaoh, that arrogant, self-willed, “I am my own god” spirit. If you find that spirit in your life, seek the deliverance of God and acquire the humble spirit of Moses instead.

Definition: Whenever “Lord” is used in the Scriptures in caps, it indicates what is known as the “tetragramaton,” the Hebrew equivalent to “YHWH,” where the Name “Jehovah” or “Yahweh” is derived. The Septuagint uses “Adonai,” thus the translation “Lord.”

Reference: “Moses said to God, ‘Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?’ And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you,’” Exodus 3:13-14

Application: God has chosen a New Name by which to reveal Himself to the world. Therefore when asked, “who is the “Lord?” Answer, “His Name is Jesus.”
