Title

A Great Mission Statement

Scripture
Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.
(1 Corinthians 16:13)
Devotional
This four-pronged exhortation would make a great mission statement for any believer in any endeavor. Whatever our goals, dreams or desires, if we would apply these commands, we would do more than well. Therefore, let us diligently watch for opportunities and hazards. Watch for each other, and watch for the coming of the LORD. Let us stand fast in the faith by not violating our conscience in matters of relationships or the business of life-always remembering that whatever is not of faith is sin.(1) Let us be brave by not looking back, but by looking ahead, even if alone. And let us be strong, but not in ourselves, but in the LORD-as the psalmist said, “Blessed is the man whose strength is in You.”(2) Each of these virtues can, on their own, enhance our lives; applied together, we cannot fail. The following verse of our text sums it all up, “Let all that you do be done with love.”(3)

(1) Romans 14:23, (2) Psalm 84:5, (3) 1 Corinthians 16:14

Defining: “Mission” is derived from Latin missio, “sending,” the equivalent of the Greek-derived word “apostle.” Therefore, your mission statement is to be the God-given authority by which you live your life.

Referencing: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit,” John 15:16.

Applying: Make sure that your mission statement has a biblical foundation, if not an out and out quote.
