Title

In the Image of God

Scripture
In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.
(Genesis 5:1)
Devotional
The Bible furthermore says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Man is the greatest expression of creation. No part or whole of the rest of creation is equal to mankind. No plant or animal is created in the image of God. Man is the only being that can claim that privilege. When we attribute the characteristics of man to animals and plants, we in turn attribute them to God. This is abominable. When we lower the creation of man, we lower the deity of God. When we place man on a level with the creatures of the world, we attempt to place God on that same level. Now understand, God is not created in the image of man-man is corruptible. When we exalt the things of this earth above the things of God, we err. We are like those, who have, as Romans says, “exchange the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”

Questions To Ponder
Morning Study Guide
Definition: Likeness: The creation of man in (or, “as”) the likeness (“resemblance,” a synonym of “image”) of God. One cannot miss the emphasis on the blessing of the image: God blessed mankind from Creation.

Reference: “Let Us make man in Our (The Father, Son and Holy Spirit) image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over… all the earth,” Genesis 1:26

Application: Be a good steward of the land and all creatures. Rule over them; they are not to rule you. Nothing created is to have precedence over those who have been created in His image.
