Title

God Has a Purpose

Scripture
I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.
(Job 42:2)
Devotional
There is not only a purpose behind every action, deed, thought and word of God, but nothing can thwart His purpose. Consider His Word, the Bible; every word is pure.(1) The writer of Hebrews says of it, “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”(2) There is no filler in the Bible, just as there are no wasted thoughts in heaven. Every action God takes has not only a divine purpose, but also an eternal consequence. Nothing that God does is trivial. The wise man will follow everything from His rest to His moving. When He speaks he will listen and when He warns he will heed. Job learned through experience that everything God does has a purpose, even the hard to understand things. We may not understand God’s purpose, but we can trust Him.

Morning Study Guide
Defining:  “Purpose”: A destination sought. I like to distinguish a difference between “purpose” and “motive.” A “purpose” is a destination sought for the glory of God; a “motive” is a self-serving direction.

Referencing: “The purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside.” 1 Timothy 1:5-6

Applying: Live, give, serve, and love with a purpose and not a self-centered motive.
