Title

What Will Be Remembered About You?

Scripture
Oh, that my words were written! Oh, that they were inscribed on a rock with an iron pen and lead, forever.
(Job 19:23-24)
Devotional
Well, Job’s words were written and they will be remembered forever. How about your words? What will be remembered about you? If it were not for still pictures and now video cameras, there would be no record of most folks’ lives at all. How sad for a life to be so quickly forgotten. For example, I know next to nothing about my maternal grandparents. They died before I was born. I know of only one picture of them, and at best it shows some of their physical characteristics. What kind of written legacy are you leaving your children and your children’s children? Why not keep a journal or diary if you will. I began writing these daily devotions for my children. What a joy to know that their children will be able to read grandfather’s beliefs. Take a few minutes each day. Write about not only your experiences, but your thoughts and emotions as well. Write as if you were leaving your words for posterity, because you will.
Text For The Day
Job 19:23, 24: “Oh, that my words were written! … That they were engraved on a rock, with an iron pen and lead, forever!”
Thought For The Day
“Here is a good searching question for a man to ask himself as he reviews his past life: Have I written in the snow? Will my life-work endure the lapse of years and the fret of change? Has there been anything immortal in it, which will survive the speedy wreck of all sublunary things? The boys inscribe their names in capitals in the snow, and in the mornings thaw the writing disappears. Will it be so with my work, or will the characters that I have carved outlast the brazen tablets of history? Have I written in the snow?” Charles H. Spurgeon

Morning Study Guide
Defining:  “Legacy”: There are financial legacies, monument legacies, heritage legacies, famous and infamous legacies; a great legacy is a good name and a good testimony. Yet these may fail to be remembered, if they are not written. Therefore, a written legacy will keep the measurement of time.

Referencing: “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,” Proverbs 13:22.

Applying: Leave a written legacy. Write something daily and pass it on to the next generation.
