Title

Built-in Counselors

Scripture
Wisdom is with aged men, And with length of days, understanding.
(Job 12:12)
Devotional
It is wise to get the counsel of those who are or have been where you are going. Experience is a great teacher. The experience of others is often better than our own experience. It saves time, energy, and hardships. When looking for a doctor or even a mechanic, it is wise to look for one with experience. When you find someone who has been where you are going, you most likely have found someone with understanding. Listen to them. Peers are usually poor counselors. They seldom have more understanding than you. They are good for agreement, but may not be so good for direction. God has automatically given us counselors with wisdom, length of days, and understanding. They are called parents. It is the wise child that heeds their caution and advice. They have been your age, and more than often have nothing but your best interest in mind.
Text For The Day
Job 12:12: Wisdom is with aged men, and with length of days, understanding.
Thought For The Day
I have heard often that it is safer to accept counsel than to give it. It can even happen that each one’s opinion is good, but to be unwilling to listen to others, when reason or occasion demands, betokens pride and willfulness.” Thomas a Kempis in The Imitation of Christ
