Title

Adultery Destroys

Scripture
The mouth of an immoral woman is a deep pit; he who is abhorred by the Lord will fall there.
(Proverbs 22:14)
Devotional
Adultery is the destroyer of life. It destroys marriages, families, businesses, and careers. It is the scourge of society. It often appears so very inviting, but at last it bites like a viper and stings like a scorpion. Its venom is deadly. When it rears its head, flee. Run for your life and the life of your family. Never compromise your thoughts; never flirt with its passion. If you find yourself favoring the affection of another more than your spouse, be like Joseph of old: leave your coat and flee. If you play around adultery’s trap, you will sooner or later fall into its clutches---and there is seldom any escape. If you do escape, you will do so very wounded and scarred for the rest of your life. Adultery is a sin like all sin. It will take you further than you want to go, cost you more than you are willing to pay, and affect others more than you can possibly imagine.

“There is no getting away from it: the old Christian rule is ‘Either marriage, with complete faithfulness to your partner, or else total abstinence.’ Chastity is the most unpopular of our Christian virtues.” C.S. Lewis

Defining:  “Adultery”: The root of “adultery” is “idolatry,” a greater desire for the creature over the Creator. Adultery is synonymous with fornication, any sexual relations outside the bonds of marriage between one man and one woman.

Referencing: “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart,” Matthew 5:27-28.

Applying: Adultery often begins with flirtation. If you find yourself flirting with another, stop.
