Title

The Source of Fame

Scripture
Then the fame of David went out into all lands, and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.
(1 Chronicles 14:17)
Devotional
Sought after fame, more than often, turns into infamy. Therefore, do not seek out your own fame. As the scripture declares, “Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth, a stranger, and not your own lips.” David never sought his own fame. Nevertheless, he was praised from his youth. When King Saul was pursuing him, David responded, “After whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?” If we truly humble ourselves before the Lord, He will exalt us in due time. Like King Uzziah, “As long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.” We cannot force the hand of the Lord. It is He who lifts up and tears down. Self-proclaimed fame at best is a flicker. God acknowledged fame is forever. It is the fame that glorifies God more than man. Fear God and not man. Respect God and man will respect you. Seek His fame and His fame will come to you.

Thought For The Day
“Why have we no great men? We have no great men chiefly because we are always looking for them. We are connoisseurs of greatness, and connoisseurs can never be great... When anybody goes about on his hands and knees looking for a great man to worship, he is making sure that one man at any rate shall not be great.” G. K. Chesterton, (1874-1936), English writer of the early 20th century
