Title

Beacons In The Night

Scripture
Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you.”
(John 12:35)
Devotional
I have not known a brighter time in my life. I do not know if it is the times, or me, but it seems to me that people are more open to the truths of the gospel than ever before. You and I as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are lights in the world. I guess that is because the world is getting darker and our lights are shining brighter. A candle in the light of the day is seldom noticed. That same candle in the darkness is a beacon in the night. The world is becoming more corrupt. Sin is much more rampant. It is for this reason that we are to be “Beacons in the night.” There was a time, for example, that a lack of character was noticed. Today, good character is a rarity. That is why it is so easy to shine. Therefore, let us shine as brightly as possible. Let us be the beacons that lead those lost stray ships to the safety of the harbor of Christ. Let us walk while we have the light, lest darkness overtake us.
Thought For The Night

Lord, shine in me and so be in me that all with whom I come in contact may know thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus.” John Henry Newman, (1801-1890), Essayist, Religious Writer, Novelist, Rector, Cardinal, Clergyman, Priest, Theologian.

Defining: “Beacon” Webster defines it as, “A light-house; a house erected on a point on land, or other place on the sea-coast, with lamps which burn at night, to direct navigators, and preserve vessels from running upon rocks, sand banks, or the shore. In general, a beacon may be any light or mark intended for direction and security against danger. Figuratively, that which gives notice of danger,” Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary of the American English Language

Applying: Don’t be afraid to shine. Heed the directive of Christ Jesus when He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” Matthew 5:16
