Title

Words Are Not Enough

Scripture
A servant will not be corrected by mere words; for though he understands, he will not respond.
(Proverbs 29:19)
Devotional
If being told once was enough, there would only be one gospel narrative, but there are four. Not only is being told once not enough, being told alone is not enough. Words are powerful, but words alone are not sufficient to accomplish any endeavor. We must not only say what we mean; we must model what we mean. Actions do speak much louder than words. If we say it without doing what we say, our words are meaningless. Proclaiming something alone does not accomplish anything at all. We can receive or give instructions and nod our heads in understanding, yet not respond with action. This is the nature of mankind. God knows it and so should we. We need to lead by word and example. We must not only speak the truth, we must model it as well. We should just as readily be able to say "watch me" as well as "hear me."
