Title

Second Generation Leadership

Scripture
These are the areas...which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers...distributed as an inheritance.
(Joshua 14:1)
Devotional
Eleazar was the son of Aaron, Joshua was the disciple of Moses, and the heads of the tribes were the sons of the fathers of Israel. These were the successors of Israel’s leadership. They were trained and mentored by their overseers. Aaron trained his sons to follow in his footsteps as the priests of God’s people. Moses instructed and mentored Joshua as the leader and warrior of the nation. Each of the patriarchs of Israel did likewise with their sons. Nepotism is an ordained quality among God’s people. What greater education and training could a son or daughter receive other than from the hand of their parents? It is the wise parent that teaches their children their trade. It does not matter whether or not the child takes up that trade---no matter what course the child goes, he or she will always have the trade of their parents as a refuge. Be a wise parent or mentor and train those entrusted to you. Be a wise son or daughter and be a disciple.

Questions To Ponder

Morning Study Guide
Defining:  “Nepotism” by simple definition is: “favoritism shown to relatives or friends.” Biblically speaking, it is the favoritism founded upon the upbringing and mentoring of parents toward children.

Referencing: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” Matthew 17:5.

Applying: May your nepotism be established on the quality of your mentoring. May it be founded on your legacy, not only your inheritance.
