Title

The Acquisition of Wisdom

Scripture
Great men are not always wise, nor do the aged always understand justice.
(Job 32:9)
Devotional
Here the youngest of Job’s accusing friends makes an astute declaration. Yet we learn that neither is there always wisdom in zealous young men. A wise perception does not reveal the depth of wisdom. Nevertheless this young mans remark holds true. Age is not a guarantee of wisdom and justice. Age comes with the passing of time. Wisdom comes with the experience of the passing of time. There are believers who have been saved for many decades, but have done nothing except repeat the first year of their salvation over and over again. They have not grown nor matured in their faith. Therefore there is no increase in wisdom. Many people get stuck in a certain season or time of life. They are married to nostalgia, but divorced from maturity. There is no growth, no more understanding and no more maturity than they received when they first believed. Wisdom and understanding come via obedient faith not just the passing of years.
