Title

Do Not Speak Against God’s Servant

Scripture
If one attempts a word with you, will you become weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
(Job 4:2)
Devotional
When we read the narratives of Job’s friends let us not forget that God said that Job was His servant and that he was blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil. We must be careful of chastising those who belong to God. Chastisement is only granted to those who have the god given authority to do so. To rebuke without authority is arrogance and dangerous. “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” Job’s friend expressed his own foolishness when he said, “But who can withhold himself from speaking?” Remember that Proverbs says, “Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.” No matter how good our arguments may sound, we are to be slow to speak or make an accusation against God’s elect. Let us furthermore remember that there is always at least one thing of which we do not know.
