Be Blessed and a Blessing

Scripture
He who has a generous eye will be blessed, for he gives his bread to the poor.
(Proverbs 22:9)
Devotional
Why a generous eye? Why not a generous heart? Jesus said, “The lamp of the body is the eye.” Jeremiah said, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” We are to be an observant people. We are to constantly be looking at God’s creation as faithful stewards. When we see a need that we are able to meet, we are to meet it. If God has blessed us with an abundance, we are to use that abundance to be a blessing to others. We are to look for ways to be generous. We are to look for opportunities to do the good we are able to do. We are not to mock nor deride the poor among us, for poverty is relevant. The poor of America are rich by many standards in the world. The greatest bread to give is the bread of life, the gospel of Christ. Therefore, let us acquire a generous eye and give our bread to the poor that we might be blessed and a blessing.
