Title

Divide and Conquer

Scripture
“…when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees… and the assembly was divided.”
(Acts 23:6-7)
Devotional
Even the apostle Paul had to deal with partisan party politics. However, instead of Democrats and Republicans, he had Sadducees and Pharisees. Paul knew the Scriptures and he knew how to use them properly. He recalled the words of Jesus, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” He wisely took advantage of the differences between the two groups and made a stand. ?Furthermore, Paul remembered the teachings of Jesus, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” ?We are not to be naive; we are to be wise and prudent. If we divide the enemy and unite the troops, victory is inevitable. It is difficult to triumph over a united front. However, singleness of purpose and unity of spirit cannot readily be defeated.
