Title

True Greatness is Against Our Nature

Scripture
Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me… For he who is least among you all will be great.
(Luke 9:48)
Devotional
Our nature is to be drawn to the important and the famous. Yet, Jesus says that we are to receive an unknown child with the same zeal as if we were receiving someone we deemed of great importance. We, quite simply, are not to be respecters of persons. This does not mean that we are not to show respect to those who are to receive honor and respect because of their office or position in the community. It does however mean that we are to esteem ourselves too highly because of whom we know or of whom we are known. In our own esteem, we see greatness as being known and knowing people of importance. In the measure of Christ, our greatness is measured in knowing only one, and that one is Christ the Lord. We are to seek none by Him. We are to respect all of those created in His image. True greatness is found in serving the servants of Christ. When we are least among ourselves, we are great in the eyes of Christ.
