He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.”

God is able to turn around any situation in an instant. Nevertheless, those things, which have plagued us for a lifetime usually take time to change. God, in His mercy, will turn us around gently. Most of us are not able to handle instant change, no matter how good that change may be. Whether it is instant wealth or health, things gained too hurriedly lack appreciation and may produce a worse state than the first. The disciples, most likely, were not able to heal this young man because of the length of his infirmity. This may have been the reason Jesus had to ask, “How long has this been happening to him?” Therefore, He said that this kind can only come out with much prayer and fasting. Maybe there are situations in your life that have been there from childhood, and, like the young man, can only come out with much prayer and fasting. Give God and yourself the time needed to turn your life around.
