Title

In Spite of His Prosperity

Scripture
Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.”
(Psalm 30:6)
Devotional
If this statement was made because of the psalmist’s prosperity, it was a statement of straw. If it was said in spite of his prosperity, it was because of a sure foundation. I believe because of the context that it was the latter. David, the writer of this Psalm also wrote, “I have been young, and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendents begging bread.” David knew poverty. He also knew the Lord in that poverty. Now that he was in great prosperity, he was determined not to allow his wealth to control his relationship with the Lord. David understood the pitfalls of prosperity. He knew that there was a strong tendency to seek his security there instead of in the Lord. We live in the greatest land and times of prosperity. Therefore, let us stand like David and profess, “I shall never be moved.”
