Lying Questions

Scripture
Then one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing Him…

There are several types of questions. Some are seeking truth while others are seeking to manipulate. Some seek understanding while others seek to condemn. Here the questioner was seeking to catch Jesus with a leading question. He was more an interrogator than a questioner. The lesson here is simple; not all questions are seeking answers. Some are seeking agreement, while others are attempting to deceive. Therefore, not all questions are legitimate nor do all questions merit an answer. If I am asked a questionable question, I inquire, “Why do you ask?” I want to know the true reason for the quiz. As there can be lying answers, there likewise can be lying questions. I do not intend to answer with a lie nor will I answer a lie. We are not to be paranoid, neither are we to be vulnerable to deceptive questions. Answer the truth with the truth. Answer a lie by seeking the truth.
