Here we find Leadership 101. The basic tenets of leadership begin with wise counsel. Wise counsel is to be received from those who are trusted. Moses was overwhelmed with the task of leading the entire nation of Israel. Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, was obviously a wise man. He knew that this thing was too much for one man. He counseled Moses to raise up other leaders to assist him with regard to judging the matters of the people. Some were to lead thousands, some hundreds and others tens. Leaders lead. Great leaders lead leaders. Moses was a great leader. He was not afraid to delegate authority, nor was he afraid to pass on his leadership to another, Joshua. Great leaders will always seek wise counsel and govern through a plurality of leadership. This was God’s plan for Moses and it is His plan for leaders in His kingdom today. Therefore, seek wise counsel and seek great leaders.
