Title

You Have a New Name

Scripture
And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.”
(Genesis 35:10)
Devotional
Jacob means “Supplanter,” while Israel means “God strives.” Throughout scripture, God changed the names of his people: Abram to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah and Saul to Paul. God changed the names of people to indicate that the people themselves had changed. You and I were once called lost, but after we receive Christ into our lives we are called: saved, chosen, the redeemed and the family of God. ?Furthermore, we, like Jacob and Abraham, will one day get a new name. Revelation 2:17 says that we will receive a white stone, and on that stone will be a new name. Our names may not change now, but the way we carry our names must change. In Christ, we are a new creation; we are brand new people. Therefore, we not only represent our own name; we represent the very name of Christ. We have been redeemed and given a new name; carry it with integrity and godliness.
