Title

Do Not Malign God’s Servant

Scripture
Do not malign a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be found guilty.
(Proverbs 30:10)
Devotional
It is so very easy to find a listening ear when speaking negatively about another. In the world, it is called gossip. We Christians like to call it “sharing,” which is “evangelastic” for gossip. Even though it is easy and people like to hear it, it will eventually backfire and bring rightful shame. When it comes to maligning gossip (and all gossip is maligning), do not give it nor receive it. You just may be slandering a dear servant of another. Anytime we gossip or receive gossip we are guilty. God not only dislikes it, He forbids it. Gossip is a foolish mind's way of exulting itself. We mistakenly think that by tearing others down that it somehow magically builds us up. It may build up in the mind of another fool, but not in the mind of God. Remember, the person you malign is made in the image of God and he or she just might be His servant.
