Title

Uncertain Certainty

Scripture
Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “It is right for me to be angry!”
(Jonah 4:9)
Devotional
Have you ever had this kind of an attitude toward the things of God? Jonah had taken up an offense for the withered plant that provided him shade. He did not understand the lesson that the Lord was attempting to teach him. Just as Jonah had shown pity for the plant, the Lord had demonstrated pity on the people of Ninevah. We may not always immediately understand the working of the Lord, but we can be assured that the end result will be for the betterment of all. We may be confident that our anger is justified, until we learn that there is one thing of which we know not. God’s patience toward Ninevah was only surpassed by His patience toward Jonah. You and I can be sure that God has shown us the same, if not greater, patience. Therefore, the next time you are certain about your anger, quench that certainty.
