Title

Contributor Or Consumer

Scripture
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own power; and My people love to have it so. But what will they do in the end?
(Isaiah 5:31)
Devotional
We live in an age with an unmerciful consumer mentality. We have become a people who boldly proclaim, “It is all about me.” We only give in order to receive. Our friends are chosen selfishly. We commit to nothing except our own motives. These attributes have unfortunately permeated into the church. Instead of preaching the truth of the gospel, we preach a social gospel. Instead of convicting the heart, we tickle the ears. Church attendance is based strictly on comfort and pleasure. The inclination is, “What can the church do for me?” The church is to meet the needs of the believer. Nevertheless, those needs are to be met by the body. Each believer is to be a minister. If we continue living only as consumers instead of contributors, the end result will be failure. We all love to be served. We must likewise learn to serve with the same love.
