Title

Trust Him Openly

Scripture
Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!
(Psalm 31:19)
Devotional
Can there be such a thing as hidden trust? How can we trust in the Lord and not say so? How can we believe and not proclaim that belief? Jesus clearly taught, “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”(1) The more candidly we proclaim and demonstrate our trust in the Lord, the more apt others will trust in Him as well. Let us, therefore openly, “Trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and lean not on our own understanding; in all our ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct our paths.”(2) When we do so we will experience His great goodness and all that He has in store for us, both in this temporal life as well as in the eternal life yet to come.

(1) Mark 8:38, (2) Proverbs 3:5-6
Thought For The Night

The splendor of a human heart that trusts and is loved unconditionally gives God more pleasure than Westminster Cathedral, the Sistine Chapel, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, the sight of 10,000 butterflies in flight, or the scent of a million orchids in bloom. Trust is our gift back to God, and he finds it so enchanting that Jesus died for love of it.” Brennan Manning, author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, The Wisdom of Tenderness, and Ruthless Trust: The Ragamuffin's Path to God

Defining:  “Trust” is an indispensable integer of faith’s equation: “believing + trusting + obeying = faith.” If you trust Him, you will believe and obey Him. Likewise, if you believe Him you will trust Him. And if you by faith obey Him, you will believe and trust Him.

Referencing: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths,” Proverbs 3:5-6

Applying: Trust what you know to be true. Heed the psalmist, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness,” Psalm 37:3
