Title

Good Ideas Require Diligence

Scripture
The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
(Proverbs 21:5)
Devotional
Every once and a while I come across a verse of scripture that jumps out at me. This is one of those verses. However, I ducked. This verse hit me right between the eyes. I often find myself reacting to an inclination too hastily. I get an idea and immediately act on it. More times than not, I have to back-track and repair my spontaneity. As the proverb says, “…Everyone who is hasty, comes to poverty.” Things done in haste take twice as long and cost at least twice as much. On the other hand, diligent plans save time and money. Not only that, they also save physical, mental and spiritual health. Diligence requires wise counsel, good planning, and above all the mind of the Lord. An example of diligence is found in the old carpenter’s adage, measure twice and cut once. Neverhteless, do not quench your ideas, but act on them with diligence. Do not procrastinate with your ideas; just be diligent.
