Why Am I Called Christian?

Scripture
…And the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
(Acts 11:26b)

There is a powerful lesson here about faith in Christ-that is, disciples are Christians. Therefore, if a person is not a disciple, how can that person be a Christian? A disciple is one who is under the authority of another. Disciples not only follow, and embrace the teachings and ways of Christ, they likewise disciple others. One cannot be a disciple without at least attempting to duplicate himself or herself in another. We have to ask ourselves, “Am I a disciple?” Is this the reason I am called a Christen? If I consider myself a Christian for any other reason, is that reason legitimate? The early believers did not seek to be Christians, they sought to be disciples. The title Christian was given to those who were disciples. Note that our text did not say that the believers were first called Christians. The majority of Americans call themselves Christians. They are quick to say, O, I believe in Jesus.” Yet, they do not embrace Christ nor are they followers of anyone except their own devices? Are you a Christian? Are you a disciple?
