It Is Time To Brake Up Our Bronze Serpents

Scripture
He removed the high places and broke down the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made…
(2 Kings 18:4)
Devotional
There were no better kings of Israel than good king Hezekiah. He removed all of the false gods and religions from the nation. He even removed the old baggage. Old baggage being those things that were once used for the glory of God but have turned into objects of idolatry. Such was the case with the bronze serpent. The bronze serpent that was used as a sign for the healing of the people in the wilderness had now become an idol. We see the same thing happening in the church today. Buildings that were once used for the glory of God have turned into idolatrous shrines. Instead of churches being houses of worship they become houses that are worshiped. The same applies to old hymns, Bible translations and holidays. These were once used to praise and worship the Creator. They have more than often turned into items that are praised and worshiped. It is time to brake up our bronze serpents.
