Title

Is My Life All About Me?

Scripture
He must increase, but I must decrease.
(John 3:30)
Devotional
John the Baptist was very famous in his day. Many people thought that he might be Israel’s messiah. Countless people would go to see him in the wilderness to be baptized by him. Nevertheless, he understood his calling. He was to be a messenger preparing the way of the Lord. Instead of John becoming more pronounced, he understood that his ministry was not about him. It was all about Christ. We likewise must understand that it is not about us; it is all about Jesus Christ. He must be the focus of what we do. He must be the reason why. We mistakenly ask, “What would Jesus do” in a given situation? This is verging on arrogance. The correct question would be, “What would Jesus have me to do?” This is verging on obedience. It is through obedience that Christ increases and we decrease. As John, we are to yield our wants and desires to Christ. We are to set aside our preferences and wishes for his. We are to learn to submit even to His inclinations. He is to increase, and we are to decrease.
