Title

Never Be Satisfied With Mediocrity

Scripture
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
(Matthew 5:48)
Devotional
The Creator would never call His creation to an unattainable feat. Therefore, if God commands it, it can be accomplished. Here is how: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. ” “Do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” God’s call to perfection is attainable through His Son Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul informed the Corinthians, “For He (God the Father) made Him (Jesus the Son) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Never settle for less than the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Never be satisfied with mediocrity. God gave His highest, that we might give our best. We do not have to lie, cheat, covet or commit any other sin. Perfection is within reach of the believer in Christ.
Thought For The Night

I find a good many people bothered by ... our Lord’s words, ‘Be ye perfect.’ Some people seem to think this means ‘Unless you are perfect, I will not help you’; and as we cannot be perfect, then ... our position is hopeless. But I do not think he did mean that. I think he meant ‘The only help I will give is help to become perfect. You may want something less: but I will give you nothing less.’" C.S. Lewis

Definition: Perfect (τελειοι [teleioi]). The word comes from τελος [telos], end, goal and/or limit. It is the goal set before all believers, the absolute standard of our Heavenly Father. There is only one way to obtain this level of excellence: that is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Reference: “Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus,” Colossians 1:28

Application: Do not compromise your integrity or the integrity of Christ. Do what you know, and do it the best of the ability you have in Christ Jesus the Lord.
