What Hinders You From Understanding?

Scripture
So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?”
(Mark 8:21)
Devotional
We, like the disciples of old, are so often attentive to the physical that we miss the spiritual. The disciples were so focused on the feeding of the four thousand that they missed what Jesus was saying about the sinful character of the Pharisees. When we fail to understand the simplicity of the gospel of Christ it is because we are looking in the wrong direction. How is it that we do not understand the importance of assembling with the believers? How is it that we do not understand the need for prayer and Bible reading? How is it that we cannot love our wives and honor our husbands? And, how is it that we do not understand that the wages of sin is death? We must learn to focus on that which Christ is focused. We must look where He is looking and go where He is going. Meeting the physical needs of people is but a by-product to Jesus. He is much more concerned about the eternal man than the temporal.
