Title

Desire His Beauty

Scripture
One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord.
(Psalm 27:4)
Devotional
Of all the desires King David could have had, he desired to be in God’s house. The average Christian in America attends church two or three times per month---for a total of four or five hours. Many watch more television in one day. Why, why, is it that we do not have David’s desire to be in God’s house? Sadly, the reason, I believe, is manifold: we have a greater desire for the things of this world than we do the things of God’s kingdom. We seek pleasure more than we seek God. We fail to see the beauty of the Lord in His people.
It was not just being in the temple that David desired; it was the presence of the Lord that he desired. However, the two should not be separated. Whenever and wherever we are gathered in His name, it is there that He dwells. (1) We cannot separate the presence of the Lord from His body, the Church. If the beauty of the Lord is not seen in the Church, His bride, where then can it be found?

Thought For The Night
“Look for yourself and you will find in the long run hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in.” C.S. Lewis, his last talk on BBC radio, The New Men.

Defining: Beauty is used to express what is pleasing to the senses, or to our understanding. It has been rightly said, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” The question that must accompany this adage is, “What or whom are you beholding?”

Referencing: “Lord, I have loved the habitation of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells,” Psalm 26:8.

Applying: The application is quite simple: Go to church.
