The story of Ananias and Sapphira is an awesome example of the power of God in the first century church. I do not believe that God is any less active today as He was then, but that the church is less in tune to the power of God, which is the Word of God.[37] There was such faith in the word of the Lord that to violate it meant that there would be consequences and to obey it meant that there would blessings. This couple not only violated their consciences, they violated the Word of God and the Holy Spirit of God. When their sin was revealed their demise was inevitable. This negative testimony moved the people to a greater reverence toward the Word of God and the Church of God, "So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things."[38] O that this convicting power of God would be evident today and that the church would have such impacting faith.Daily Reading
