Do Not Revile Authority

Yet Michael the archangel in contending with the devil… dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
(Jude 1:9)
Devotional
Jude is clearly stating that even Satanic authority is not to be reviled. Yet, man in his arrogance not only reviles the principality of darkness, he reviles just about all authority. There is an awesome lesson in our text, one that should cause us to sit up and pay close attention. We must realize that all authority that exists is from God. Therefore we are to subject ourselves to the authority God has placed in our lives. We are to learn to listen and honor those whom God has given us as leaders. We are to submit without fear; always remembering that the ultimate authority is the Lord God. When that authority challenges the authority of God, instead of rebuking or dishonoring that authority, say as Michael, “The Lord rebuke you!” Therefore, do not speak evil of that which you do not understand. Trust the Lord; He will take care of you, and all authority.
