Title

A Double Portion

Scripture
Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you…” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”
(2 Kings 2:9)
Devotional
It is just as easy to ask for a double portion as it is to ask for a single one. The difficulty comes in the giving. When we ask of God, the giving is easy. He has no shortage. His reserve is endless and His abundance is immeasurable. Elijah had much to offer, but only God was able to double his portion. Elisha knew that his mentor Elijah was a mighty man of God. Therefore, he knew that God was able to multiply the giftedness of Elijah. Elisha boldly asked and God graciously gave. The lesson of our text is simple, give all that you can and ask for all that you desire; and do so to the glory of God. Even if you ask as Elisha, “a hard thing,” God may be willing to trust you with your request. Be slow to limit yourself, and never limit God. When asked, “What may I do for you?”, answer honestly and boldly.
