Title

Lamenting For The Wayward

Scripture
“O my son Absalom-my son, my son Absalom-if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!”
(2 Samuel 18:33)
Devotional
These to me are some of the saddest words ever recorded. This lamenting of king David for his rebellious son Absalom has been reverberated through out history. Many a heart broken father has grieved over the loss of a wayward child. It should be the responsibility of a loving parent to fear for the well being and safety of their children. Nevertheless, we often find ourselves fearing our children. This should never be the case among believers, but unfortunately it more than often is. I do not know what David could have done to correct the waywardness of his son. I do know however that frowardness of our children, to this day, breaks the hearts of parents. As these are the sadest words in scripture, the most joyous must be the words spoken by our heavenly father with regard to His Son, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Which are you?
