Consider David’s View Of Authority

Scripture
But David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?”
(1 Samuel 26:9)
Devotional
David understood authority. Until God would remove Saul, David was going to honor him. O to have people understand authority to this degree. We sadly revile authority that is honorable; let alone authority without honor. We are to be very slow to speak and act against authority. The book of Romans says, “There is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.” We so loosely speak against civil, legal, church and parental authority. We judge things we do not understand. We condemn without knowledge. We allow our preferences to outrank truth. I have seen, as a pastor, good folks who love the church leave because of a petty preference. One lady left because she did not like the color of the ceiling of the auditorium. If there is nothing to judge, the judgmental will find something to complain about. We must understand, we cannot honor the authority of God if we fail to honor the authority He has appointed. Just consider David.
