Title

The Best Authority Is God’s

Scripture
The Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people… for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me…”
(1 Samuel 8:7)
Devotional
When we reject God’s authority, we reject God. There is no difference. The first God given authority in our lives is to be our parents. As children, when we reject our parents, we are likewise rejecting the authority of God. Whomever the authority of our lives happens to be, if that authority does not violate the Word of God that authority is of God. The problem arises when we reject godly authority for self imposed authority. Instead of right authority we desire popular authority. Instead of that which would keep us from straying, we choose that which satisfies our lusts. Here, the people of Israel wanted a king like the ungodly nations around them. God gave them their request. Saul was a good looking popular leader. He ruled over the people as the prophet said that he would. We are to learn this simple lesson. Do not reject God’s authority in your life for that which appears to be pleasing to your flesh. The best authority is God’s.
