Lying Questions

Scripture
But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test Me?”
(Luke 20:23)
Devotional
Not all questions are legitimate. Those who were questioning Jesus were not seeking information or answers. They were attempting to catch Him through a false interrogation. Nevertheless, He perceived their craftiness. We are to realize that just as there are lying answers; there are lying questions. Conniving people are often masters at manipulating others through trick inquisitions. They have a path to their interrogation. Their goal is confusion because they are children of the master deceiver. Therefore, we must be able to discern their ways. It is more than fair to respond to a question that you perceive to be leading with, “Why do you ask?” Likewise remember that not all questions merit an answer. It is very difficult for honest people to contend with the manipulative. You hopefully say what you mean and mean what you say. They twist what they say and say what they scheme. Learn to perceive their craftiness.
