Title

Firm Graciousness

Scripture
But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house.
(Genesis 19:3)
Devotional
Sometimes we must insist on being courteous, hospitable and giving. Here, in our text, Lot was insistent on the two angelic messengers being guests in his home. He did so because he knew the sinful nature of his town and that the men would be in jeopardy if they stayed out in the town square. Furthermore, many people turn down graciousness out of politeness. We, in turn, may offer to be hospitable half-heartedly.  To know when to offer and how insistent our offers should be takes godly discernment or there is a danger of being overbearing. If we know that our offer of hospitality or courtesy would be welcome and best for the recipient, then, by all means, we are to be strongly insistent. There is an art to knowing when to offer and when not to be insistent with our offer. The key will be found in our sincerity. If we are insincere, we can be sure that our insincerity will find us out.
